Sydney Underground Film Festival, Workshop for Potential Cinema, Sydney College of the Arts and Inner West Council presents:
16MM FILMMAKING WORKSHOP PROGRAM 2017:
Filming and Processing 16mm Film
The first two workshops on Wed 19th and Wed 26th April (note: repeat workshops on Wed 3rd & Wed 10th May) will introduce the practice of DIY 16mm filmmaking from shooting to processing our own B&W film.
Workshop One: This workshop will cover using the (Bolex) camera including camera loading, exposure, continuous and variable speed shooting, time lapse & time exposure, lenses, film sensitivity, light metering, film speed ISO/ASA/DIN. The group will shoot 2 rolls of 16mm film ready for processing in Part 2.
Workshop Two: This workshop will cover the hand processing of 16mm film including the use of chemicals, loading the LOMO tank, the B&W negative & reversal processing, drying your film and projecting.
The possibility of full control over the filmmaking process, among other things, has in recent years motivated the birth of independent laboratories, self-managed by artists and filmmakers, all over the world. Workshop for Potential Cinema joins in this tradition and welcomes artists, filmmakers, students or anyone interested in audiovisual creation, in materiality of film and artisanal processes of creation and cinematic experimentation.
